An afternoon with wings!

2010 has already been very productive for me. I've finished several projects knowing Monday we will all go back to school. That is a prospect the three of us are not really looking forward to. you see, each time I have a vacation, I get a little spoiled. I start sleeping in again, getting things done, feeling creative, and then BAM! Vacation is over!

Today was no exception. I wanted to make a cushion for our entryway bench that has been a little naked since my sister gave it to me in June.

So, I'm sewing on my vintage (I don't just mean cute vintage, I mean actual, 60 year old vintage sewing machine, apple green, that I bought at a garage sale 6 years ago for $25.)sewing machine. I turn around and see this:

Grace has always been notorious for dressing up, but today I guess she was feeling a little angelic. Of course, whenever one of them does something that gets a laugh, the other has to do it.

Pretty soon, there is wrestlingand posing

and FINALLY my cushion is done

and everyone goes back to their quiet little corner of the house.

Night Owls

To ring in the new year, we all watched a movie on tv. We love movies, and anytime there is a hint of coldness in the air, we're watchin' a movie!

The kids begged and begged all day to stay up till midnight, and watch the ball drop. About 20 times during the night, they kept asking, "Are you sure we can stay up till midnight?" Yes, yes, it's fine.

Brent went to bed around 10:00pm, he claims he had a big auction to go to in North Manchester Sat. morning, and he needed his beauty sleep. The kids and I skipped from channel to channel watching movie stars and musical artists party the night away in New York and Las Vegas. Places that looked like they were having a lot more exciting time than us.

Anyway,

at this time, I looked over at my two darling children and saw this:

Grace having the time of her life, staying up the latest she ever has, and....

poor Evan, all tuckered out, just minutes before midnight.

Even Oreo the cat can't make it till midnight.

Oh well, we had fun. I had to carry Evan to bed, Grace practically skipped up the stairs, and we all slept in till 8:15. I wish it was later, but my children, for the love of pete, have always been early risers. Can't get that out of their system!

Busy little bees

Grace and I have been exuding our creative talents for the last day and a half. We completed two projects yesterday, and I made the Pioneer Woman's cinnamon rolls today. (That's a whole other story, seeing as how I'm terrified of yeast. We do not have a good relationship. It has just never done the job for me that it's supposed to.) Anyway, back to the crafts. This was the first project. I saw it on the farm chicks blog awhile ago. It is adorable!

It's a cute little dry erase board, much cuter than what you can buy in the store. It only took some vintagy scrapbook paper, clear contact paper, some kitschy details, and double stick tape.

Grace can't keep her hands off it. She's been drawing constantly.

The other project we finished was a Martha Stewart one. I saw this on her website a couple of weeks ago. You could upload any picture to her website, and she would change it into a paint by number, only for her glitter. Since we adore our chickens, and I have some chicken things in the kitchen already, I uploaded a picture of one of our hens.

I put the glue on , and once we mixed just the right shade of glitter, Grace would put that on. The frame was a shadow box I had, and I added the other details myself.

It goes good with my aqua kitchen. Isn't she a cute hen?

Tomorrow brings a whole new set of projects to complete. I have a cushion to make for our foyer bench, a coffee table to paint, more organizing to do, and the list goes on. There are just not enough hours in the day to complete all the tasks I have for myself.
