Mustard, or Gold, the new black?

I'm a little obsessed with the color mustard.

I want to wrap myself up in all it's goldy goodness.

The beautiful gold leaves all over the ground lately are NOT helping with my obsession.

I want some mustard sweaters...  (from Lands End)
and maybe some scarves or belts, or gloves?

I'm even a little gaga for mustard colored crafts...that look like they would be very easy to make.

Like these chevron (which I'm also a little obsessed with lately) pillows.

or some of these mustard yellow/slightly distressed initials too.

I've made some magnetic clothespins for my ETSY shop, but I like these in all their mustardy polka dot glory.

Since I've learned how to sew a zipper, I might need to find some of this material, and make one of these for myself.
If YOU like mustardy goodness too, check out these yellow/mustard items in my shop.

Mustard....maybe it's the NEW BLACK.  I've seen it everywhere lately.

What color are you obsessed with?

You are my sunshine...

It's no secret the newest "saying" going around (or at least I think it is...) is YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE.

I've seen it on Pinterest in various forms.

I LOVE all of these for various reasons.

The shabbyness.

The Yellow!

The fonts.

The other day, while I was in the garage helping the kids get the pig feed measured out, I walked past a forgotten board that has been leaning up against the garage wall like FOREVER.

It had 4 nails sticking out of it that I tried and tried in the past to pull out, but I think they are in there permanently, so I left them in.

For some reason, the other day, that board told me I needed to rescue it and make it into the Sunshine sign I've been thinking of making.

I took it inside, brushed off the cobwebs (much to Grace's total disgust...how could I even touch them with my bare hands??????) and just hammered those four nails flat.

Then I took it outside and spray painted it totally white.
Then I got out my vinyl for the cricut, and printed out the words to use for the sign.

Then I took it back outside and spray painted it yellow, right over the vinyl words and everything.

I let it dry, then brought it back inside...

and stripped off the words.  They came right off and left behind WHITE words.

Pretty slick, huh?

I got out my sandpaper and distressed it a little.

I didn't want it looking too perfect and new.  Then I took a thin black marker, highlighted the words, and distressed it some more.

Then I hung it up above the doorway from the foyer to the dining room so everyone sees it when they come in the front door.

Bad thing about that is...everytime Brent walks in the door he sings "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine..."  Funny the first time, but not so much anymore.

Now Evan's doing it.

Really!?

Maybe I would've done it a little differently if I would've had a taller board, but this looks ok for now.  I can always spray paint over it....

All Things Yellow?

To say that I've felt in a blog funk lately is an understatement.

I am perplexed everyday about what to write. Do you all get tired of seeing crafts? Do you really want to hear all about my not really interesting life?

I'm feeling unsure of myself.

So, leave it to my beautiful, smart daughter to say to me the other day, "How about doing a color post? How about YELLOW?"

I thought about this for awhile, and decided it wasn't such a bad idea.

I've always liked the color yellow. It's cheery, warm, and makes you feel good. At one time both my kitchen and laundry room were shades of yellow. I don't know what's changed over the years, but yellow seems to have become only an accessory color in my home. Not that there's anything wrong with the color, it's just, well....I don't know.

As I walked around the house the other day with my camera in tow, trying to find things that were yellow, I had somewhat of a hard time. I'll admit, red and tan, blue, green, and black are most prevalent in my decorations. So, I decided to fudge a little. Instead of everything being totally YELLOW, some of these pictures are things in the YELLOW family.

Bear with me.

I found this wonderful broach several years ago, well, I don't even remember where. I've never worn it, but thought about putting it on a purse, or a jacket, but instead, it's remained on my kitchen shelf among my enamelware collection.

I love it for the softness of the velvet, and the vintagey look of it.

Right along with the broach is also this old jar full of sparkly peaches.

I can't even tell you how many years I've had these peaches, but it's been a long time. There was a year when every fruit item you found in stores was covered with colored beads. I jumped right on the bandwagon that year and picked these up. They go great with the red in my kitchen.

And since we're STILL in the kitchen, I have these two signs with yellow on them.

My enamelware collection has grown and then shrunk, and then grown again over the years. I only have one yellow item, though. I wish I had more, I just haven't had much luck finding them. I'm sure at one time this was a refrigerator container with a lid, but there is no lid with mine. This one holds the kid's allowance money for the week.

I'm sure you'll find plenty of yellow fruit loops in your bowl of cereal every morning.

Or a yellow crayon in your crayon jar in the office.

Many years ago for my birthday, my sister got me this poster. I love it, and still display it in my dining room along with a vintage poster of Mae West.

The sash on the snowman's hat, as well as some pool balls fall into the yellow category.
(I know, I'm really reachin' here!)

A pillow on my couch,

my favorite yellow winter village house,

on a sign in my most unfavorite of rooms (the man cave/John Deere room),

and on the library bag waiting to be used.

I found yellow on a hat that desperately needs washing, and

the Christmas card I made for my aunt and uncle.

Yellow has even found it's way onto my most favorite of laundry detergents.

I guess yellow is more prevalent in my house than I thought. And each and every item carries a story behind it.

I might just decide to seek out other "colors" in my home. It's always interesting to take a step back and really look at the things I own and why I own them.
