It's called a blizzard around these parts!

So our Christmas vacation from school has been extended 2 extra days due to the blizzard that hit us over the weekend.

We got 16+ inches of snow.  THEN it started blowing around.

In my last post, I alluded to the fact that it was by far the best Christmas Break we've ever had, but it just keeps getting better...bar the fact that each day we're home, my paycheck gets a little less.

I remember in the 80's when I was in Elementary School and we were off for a week due to a huge blizzard, but MY kids have never experienced that.  Sad if you think about it.

Now that they are almost 13 and 14, they just don't go out and play in the snow like they used to when they were smaller and it took YEARS to get them dressed up to go out in it.

BUT, yesterday, after literally being snowed in since Sunday, the kids and I went venturing out.

It's also been -15+ below with windchill for the last couple of days, so we were in NO hurry to go out anyway.

Our dog Rudy, has been sleeping in the garage on a pile of blankets for days, with frequent potty breaks outside.

It's THAT COLD.

Much to our delight, the County FINALLY decided to plow out our road yesterday.  They had to take a big payloader in front of the snow truck with a blade to even clear the road.  The snow truck even got stuck for a minute.   No one on the road has been able to leave for days because the wind totally blew the road shut with drifts.

Our neighbor brought over his tractor with a bucket on the front and cleared out our driveway yesterday so we could get a fill up of LP gas for our tank out back.  He piled the snow into BIG mountains in the front and back of our house, so the kids and I went outside to slide down them.

It was a BLAST...but EXHAUSTING to climb up without falling down.

There was a lot of uncontrollable laughing going on.

It sure is pretty to look at, but I'm glad we're finally plowed out.

Hands down, greatest vacation ever...and we never left home.

  1. Yep! We're enjoying our stay cation too. We were supposed to go back on Tuesday - we might be able to go back on Friday. They already decided against trying to go tomorrow. The roads in town and out in the county are still awful. I should probably be doing projects, but I just can't find the motivation. Instead I've been reading library books and teaching David to play Uno. We venture out for short periods everyday in the backyard - but it's just been too cold to do that much either. I'll confess I'm not really looking forward to going back. I'd be okay with staying home and keeping up the same activities the rest of the winter.

  2. These looked so fun! We're hunkered down awaiting another round here today. I do appreciate how it covers the frozen mud but still am WAITING FOR SPRING! ;-)
