Back in September 2012 Brent and I celebrated 15 years...by doing nothing.
Sad, but true.
We knew that the kids were BOTH going away to snow camp in January for 3 days, and we decided that would be when we would go away too.
So, this past weekend, we went to Chicago for the weekend, and the kids went up to snow camp in Michigan, where there, ironically enough, was no snow...because we had a heat wave over the weekend!
Ha.
The middle of January, and it was almost 60 degrees.
C-A-RAZY!
It made for a good weekend for us, even though the kids were forced to be with MUD instead of SNOW.
You know, after 15 years together...you know each other pretty well. All your bad traits, all your good traits.
We decided to put aside all those things about ourselves that drive the other crazy. Just for the weekend.
We had a great time.
It was our first trip away without the kids...in 15 years.
We slept in a King Bed instead of our Queen.
(We always do this on trips.)
We ate expensive meals, just paying for 2 instead of 4!
We walked all day, shopping, buying birthday gifts for our kids birthdays coming up...visiting places in Chicago we had never been to before.
It went way too quickly...the weekend.
I missed the kids. We always share these things with them.
We'll be back. It's our vacation EVERY YEAR...CHICAGO. We'll have to take them to the new places we saw.
Now, onto the next 15 years...
Better late than never when it comes to a romantic get-away. The only trouble was that you missed the kids. Two days is too short to be longing for your children. Just a sign that you need more trips like this! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! My husband and I have been married for 28 years and although we've had a couple of trips sans children over the years... we have never even celebrated our anniversary! (Actually we didn't have a honeymoon either since we had just bought our first house) It is December 29th and between the holidays and our kids birthdays in early January it is more of a hassle than doing nothing... Which is actually ok with me... I did tell him that I want to plan a whole family trip for our 30th... perhaps the Florida Keys since I've always wanted to see Key West AND I only vacation in hot weather :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a great time!
