Truth Thursday: I have a problem

I have a problem, (and NO, BRENT, it's not that I'm too short...we'll discuss that later.)
/div>
It's that I feel the need to be organized most all the time.

There's nothing wrong with that, right?

I just like things in their place.

I'll admit in the late 90's, when I was first married....I jumped on the Tupperware organizing bandwagon.
I had parties to support my habit.
My cupboards now show proof of that. They might be outdated, and the labels on the containers might have changed, oh, say about 50 times, but I spent too much money to just throw them out.

And sure, arranging books by color might be a tad over the edge...
but it sure looks pretty.

I know if I wasn't organized, we'd all be flying by the seat of our pants like my wonderful husband loves to do. (sorry babe, we both know it's true!)
Now, I've completed some organizing projects that at the time seemed a great idea.

But they didn't really catch on, and no one really used them.

But others, they work pretty well if I do say so myself.

It's not like I come up with these ideas all by myself, either. Websites like tipjunkie and iheartorganizing rock.

It makes me feel "put together" to be organized. Some of my favorite stores have the best organizing things...IKEA...The Container Store, etc. They make my heart go pitter patter.

My daughter once caught me swooning over a very cute binder in a store. She didn't think I was cool at all. I thought I had just hit the jackpot!

Can't please everyone, can you?
I'll stay just the way I am thank you very much.

I just wanted to be honest.

  2. I feel more in control when I get organized...I sleep a whole lot better at night when everything is picked up, put in their rightful place. I'm also not one to keep a lot of things...the more things there are, the more time to dust, re-arrange and put back in order. My hubby on the other hand, could use those 10 shovels in the barn and the 30 wrenches in his toolbox (not really that amount, but seems like it to me!) Keep up the wonderful organizing, Lorie! :)

  3. I don't think there's anything wrong with displaying books by color.... I say, practical CAN be pretty. I feel much better when everything is in it's place and/or has a place! And if your family is like mine, you're always the one responsible for finding what others can't... being organized helps!

I'll admit, I too suffered from the Tupperware dilemma but I did get rid of almost all of mine when we packed to move to Red Gate Farm... I now use vintage containers and jars for much of my storage. Your spice storage is adorable! I've seen this done before and thought about it myself but my counter top space is extremely limited.... I went with a vintage wooden medicine cabinet that I could hang on the wall instead.

And by the way, I love your books in vintage wooden crates! I'm going to be on the lookout for some of these to use for just the same thing!!

  4. I love organization...there is absolutely nothing wrong with books organized by color ; ). I may be a little over the top though...I've labeled inside of my fridge, little good it does...everyone else pretty much ignores it. The story of an organizers life I guess...now if we could just get our families on board. Great post. Hugs-Carrie
