Splashes of Red

A man named John Ruskin once said, "The purest and most thoughtful minds are those which love color the most."

I believe there are colors out there that just make you feel differently. Strange as it may seem.

I've lived in houses where I've painted rooms light green, and felt cold when I sat in those rooms. I've painted over that same light green wall with a warm brick red, and felt warm and cozy (well, except from the draft coming from the 100 year old windows!)

I have splashes of many colors throughout my house, but probably mostly red.

I've given you samples of the yellow throughout my house before, so since red is also prevalent, I thought I'd share some of that too.

AS OCD as this may seem, one day I arranged all the books on the bookshelf by color. (red first of course)

Red is on the adorable biscuit cutter I found at Goodwill ages ago, and just have never used. Tragic really.

Red even creeps up into my cookbooks and reigns supreme. Just ask Cath Kidston... who totally ROCKS!

I'll enjoy wrapping something in my most favorite of all after Christmas polka-ey dotty red and white paper!

I envy those of you who have the serene rooms filled with white and beige, and burlap. I'm sure I would feel soothed in those rooms. I secretly want those colors in my home, but I've never lived without the absence of color, and I don't think I could start now.

Color is who I am. Color makes me feel creative.

Red is fire and life and love.

Try it out sometime.

  1. I love your red. I am like you--love the neutral, simple white rooms with burlap and creams but I just don’t think I could do it--I need my color. It makes me so happy :)

  4. In answer to your question Lindz (my cousin far, far away...) I LOVE the Cath Kidston recipe binder. I bought mine on Amazon several years ago for about $20 (with free shipping of course.) That is my main cookbook. I copy recipes from other cookbooks, and put it all together in the binder, then I'm only looking in one spot. Each divider section has a folder with 2 pockets for those recipes you don't have 3-hole punched and ready to go yet. Great buy! Get one!

  5. I feel the same way. Those white, beige or cream rooms seem so serene and peaceful but I must have colour, especially red!

  7. Red is my favorite color. I have splashes of it all over my house and I used to have it all over my classroom. Then we went to the only using calming colors in our classrooms - so no more red - just earth tones and blues. Blegh. (Funny thing the kids don't seem any calmer without the red either)
