"Our" Marley

If you've never seen the movie, Marley & Me. You'll have to get it. It is a wonderfully funny movie that shows the "true" demeanor of some dogs.

However, I can NEVER finish the whole movie. At the end, the unspeakable happens, and the dog dies, which is what happened in real life (this IS a true story), but I just can't handle it.

So where was I going with this not so uplifting post? Believe me, it gets better...

Yesterday we drove about 1hr. 45 min. away to go buy a Great Pyrenees puppy that we've been looking desperately for for awhile now.

To say we were all a little excited was an understatement. We already had a name picked out for the boy we were going to get...Marley. This took a lot of consideration, and plenty of name shouting on the way to school, trying to figure out the perfect name.

However, we hit a snow storm/blizzard on our way down, and it took MUCH longer to get there, find the house out in the middle of nowhere, AND get home. Most of our day was shot, but we picked out this wonderful little pup.

He's only 5 weeks old, so we didn't get to bring him home yet, we'll have to go back in about a month or less. We can't wait.

Just look at all these wiggly little guys!

It was HARD choosing.

Little Marley will eventually be as big as his momma here.

These type of dogs are great "working" dogs, meaning, he will be out with our flock of sheep, protecting them. It gives us a peace of mind that he will be with them. He will be their protector, and he'll blend right in with them, since he's all white.

We'll now have 3 dogs. More than we ever thought, but we love them all!

  1. Congratulations on your new addition.
I am a big dog lover, having spent more than half my life with Saints and Newfs.
I am glad that you will be giving MArley a job. It is what they are bred for.
I hope to hear more about him and watch him grow.

  2. Aww, he's so cute! I had a neighbor growing up that had one for their sheep and they named her Sassafras. My first dog was an English shepherd/border collie mix that we got from your Uncle Kent. She was brought home before I was born and she passed away when I was 16! Then we got Katelyn Joy, a border collie, from your Uncle CJ! I would love to get another border collie...they are excellent herd dogs and they both were so good at helping us herd the hogs.

  4. I LOVE LOVE Love that movie, but the book - oh the book is 100 times no a thousand times better. I laughed and cried while reading the book and my hubby thought I was nuts. Then about a month after reading the book I heard about some border collie lab mix puppies that needed a good home and well the rest is history. I hope your Marley settles into the family nicely. He's a beautiful pup.

  5. I haven’t watched the movie because I know I would be so sad. I actually work with Marley’s old neighbor...he lived right next door to them. That’s my personal claim to fame by the way :) LOL
I have a Great Pyrenees and he is absolutely the BEST dog EVER!! He is a working dog and he works harder than anyone I know. His name is Shep. Can’t wait to hear all about Marley :)

  6. Found you via Flower Patch Farm Girl. Your comment on her bravery post was right above mine.
Your little puppy looks so sweet and I'm excited for your 'kidlets'.
I'll be thinking of you on Thursday, Shannon's day of bravery.

  7. Hi, found your sweet blog through Shannan, aka Flower Patch Farmgirl. I know we were supposed to encourage the one above, but I thought I'd drop by and encourage the one below too, so glad I did. Hello from a fellow farm gal. I love the puppy pictures, ironic because we are debating Great Pyrenees vs. another Golden. Every time a child turns 7 they get to choose a dog. My husband says we are turning into a "Hound farm" ;)Looking forward to "following" your blog and reading how this breed is with children.
Blessings to you and praying for you especially during "Bravery Thursday".
