It's that time again!

Spring Break week for us, not only signifies a week off of school...but for the last 3 years, it also means 4-H pigs!

This past Wednesday, Brent took Grace and Evan to the pig auction he went to alone last year. They were going to pick out their pigs, and pay for them with their new checking accounts.

Yes, I know they are only 10 and 11, and they each have a checking account, but our deal is, we buy all the feed, and they buy their pigs, and they keep the money from the auction at the end of fair, but it goes into their savings accounts. The use their checking accounts to buy their pig, and pay for an ad in the paper after fair thanking their buyer.

This seems to be a fair deal, and their accounts are growing.

Anyway, so Brent brought home 2 pigs on Wednesday, a Crossbreed, and a Spot.

Grace's is the larger of the two (Cross, born 3 weeks earlier), and Evan's is the Spot (he also had a spot last year.) Their names, respectively are "Spike" and "Spoterson" (see if you can guess which is which)

We still need to get a third. We always keep a "spare" in case something were to happen to one of these before fair. The third one will hopefully be bought this weekend.

When I look at these little pigs, all cute and funny...

it makes me laugh.

They literally have to climb into their feed trough to eat now...

but I know that will soon change. Each year, Sadie checks them over pretty good...

and last year learned a very bad habit...jumping into their pen, and trying to eat their food.

It just blows me away that about the time school ends in May they will already be about this big...(pigs last year). That's only about 1 1/2 mo. away.

Ah, yes, more animals at the Yoder farm. We have enough to be a petting zoo now! Ha!

I'm linking up to Verde Farm's Farm Friend/Farmgirl Friday. Come and join me!

Have a great weekend!

  4. They are cute and what a great venture for Grace and Evan. I would love to do the same, except it would be my pig to raise!

Thank you so much for your friendship and support during my recent loss. Your comment warmed my heart. : )
