This is why...

This is why 5 1/2 years ago we packed up our 100 year old house in town and moved to the country.

This is why I wanted my children to experience the joy of running full out into a yard twice the size of a city lot.

This is why I also wanted them to know what the farmers around us do. Corn doesn't come from the grocery store ya'll!

This is why a cookout/campfire in the cool of the autumn is like nothing on earth!

This is why my children now know that nature is peaceful and can be quiet sometimes.

This is why we moved from the comfort of a quaint neighborhood, with friends living right next door....so that my kids could grow up next to their great-grandparents and so that they could grow up with the responsibility of caring for animals, and so they could FEEL what an isolated road is like.

I'm so glad we made this decision, although I fought it for a good long while. Now, I have no idea why I fought so hard. It was the best decision we ever made.

  1. What a wonderful decision indeed. I am sure life is very full at your farm :) The new pictures is just beautiful. Love the wagon--and that pumpkin on the left is perfect.

  2. Someday I'm hoping my family can do the same. In the meantime I live vicariously through my blog friends. Beautiful photos.

  3. You can take the girl out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the girl....I'm glad too you found your joy in country living! I know Grace & Evan are learning & experiencing lots of exciting things some only read about in books. Being in touch with nature helps us see the heart of God!

  4. Wow, we did the same thing 6 years ago! I regret that we didn't get to move to Red Gate Farm when my children were young... they would have loved it. Your photos are beautiful, I've taken many similar ones, especially the sunset shots.

Love your new "header" picture for autumn.
